The concept of a One-Name study is not new to me, the Orlando One-Name study has been in existence since 2002, but being an Italian surname the catalyst for the study was in Sicily. Meanwhile, the Butcher One-Name study is in its infancy but research into the surname began as far back as 1988.
This study is global, but the initial data extraction will be undertaken in the English Counties of Surrey and Sussex before expanding outwards, but there will be research undertaken in Australia and Canada in particular because of my family lines.
How the Study is Kept
The material is currently kept in a mixture of ways such as spreadsheets and documents along with some paper copies of notes & records. Going forward the plan is to put on-line all the material held in the Butcher One Name Study. I will also use this blog as a way of sharing various snippets from the study.
The term United Kingdom refers to the Countries of England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. In the terms of genealogical material the regions are broken down to England and Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, BUT it is worth remembering that before 1922 Ireland was one Country.
There will be no material on-line referencing living people, unless that material is already on-line and/or in the public domain.
